Description

I watched in helpless horror as two guards hauled Gavin to his feet and dragged him from the room. My voice was frozen, unable to protest as another guard took hold of my arm, leading me upstairs. From the confines of my room, I stared into the darkness beyond my window, hoping to catch one more glimpse of Gavin. He was gone, and I wondered if he would have been better off if he had never met me.Ariella is royalty, a princess of Dalthia, but palace rules and the strictures of society leave her restless and longing for more. When she meets Gavin, a palace gardener who both catches her eye and challenges her authority, she feels drawn to him, but how can she befriend a commoner under the watchful eye of her royal family? When her budding relationship with Gavin is discovered, her idyllic days spent in the gardens come to an end—and Gavin suffers the consequences. But being separated from Gavin isn’t just the loss of a friend, it’s the loss of her soulmate, the boy who knows her and understands her better than anyone. Even if their relationship wasn’t forbidden, finding her way back to his arms is more than unlikely; it seems impossible, especially when Gavin returns—betrothed to someone else. Having him so close and yet entirely out of reach is an agony Ella has never known, but one she must learn to endure.Torn between duty and her heart, Ella can only hope she can find a way to break free of social constraints and earn a second chance with Gavin. Then maybe she’ll find the happiness that’s been so elusive. Maybe she’ll find a way to be just Ella.Just Ella is the first book in the Dalthia series. Each book can be read as a stand alone since each has a different main character. Just Ella is a clean and wholesome story of growing up and finding love even when it flies in the face of family expectation and duty to country. Filled with sweet, toe-curling romance and unexpected action and adventure, you’ll be rooting for the princess and the commoner to find their way to each other. Not quite historical, but not quite fantasy, this inspirational fairy-tale-without-the-fairies gives a nod to the medieval, a wink to the renaissance and blows a kiss to teens, tweens, young adults and women who love stories set in kingdoms and castles.Annette K. Larsen is one of the most popular sweet romance authors of recent years. Writing for teen and tween girls, young adults, and women alike, her books can be shared from mother to daughter to grandmother. Any book of hers would be a great gift idea for the book-loving women in your life. Whether she’s writing a historical fantasy series about princesses, or a romantic suspense thriller full of action and adventure, all of her novels have a guaranteed happy ending and plenty of swoon-worthy kisses.

ADORABLE! That’s how I feel about this book. It is a clean, very well written, proper romance. It shows the struggle of the love formed between a princess and a gardener; aka a commoner. It also shows the love and fierce protectiveness of a King (and his stubbornness) for his daughter. No one will ever be good enough for a father’s daughter, especially not royalty. There is a bond between sisters but it shows how different each sister is. There is forgiveness, love, sorrow, anger, corruptness, loyalty, honor, friendship and family here. This book just sucks you in and makes you feel it all. It shows a truly good person’s heart.I started reading this book one day and I had an appt that night to take my daughter to and I wanted to cancel it because I wanted to finish it and didn’t want to be interrupted but I went. Then, I didn’t want to make dinner but I did and read while cooking. Then I totally ignored my family and went to read and then I realized how rude I was because I had been so absorbed in Ariella and Gavin’s story that I neglected by own story but I just HAD to finish it now! That’s how absorbed I was. I shed a few tears with her plight! This is a story about Ariella who we see in the beginning trying to escape the palace walls to go on an adventure outside the palace. She is caught and humiliated when her mother sees her. But Ariella is loyal and wants to see and do other things than what is proper. She wants to do what others do; she wants a purpose. So, she goes to the beautifully sculpted maze and meets Gavin, the gardener, (which is very cute how they first meet) and they form a friendship. She learns about him and he teaches her about life and gardening and sneaks her outside the palace but with his protection. Then they both realize that this is more than just friendship here. But they know it cannot be.There is a lot of heartbreak and learning and miscommunication and misunderstandings. There is also a prince who is not a good man who has had his eyes on Ariella for years and she knows he is vile and tries to ignore him but he is persistent. He makes a good villain.I want to write more, but less is better here.I recommend this book to anyone who wants a clean romance, who enjoys fairy tales, who liked Blackmoore or Edenbrooke, or just anyone! I would give it more stars if I could. It is just that good! I got this book for the tour on my kindle but I ordered a physical copy too because I will be reading it over and over in the years to come. It is a timeless masterpiece!
